In case you didn’t know... Making Rank Has Two Meanings for General

When Brigadier General Sandra Finan held her promo-

tion ceremony at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, she was pinned with rank insignia crafted by her father, Delmar Chase. A retired dental technician, Chase used the skills he

learned on the job to cast his daughter’s stars at his home worktable. The stars, along with every other rank insignia Finan has worn since she was promoted to major, were produced via the investment casting process with a cen- trifugal casting machine. Her new rank was cast in pure silver and plated with rhodium to keep it from tarnishing.
