Ashland, Süd-Chemie to Merge Metalcasting Divisions North America

The new global joint venture will include the feeding aids activities of AS Luengen, the core production of WD Giesserei Technik GmbH, the fer- rous metallurgy of SKW Eisengiesserei GmbH, Indian Ajay Metachem Süd- Chemie Pvt Ltd., the filter manufacturer Süd-Chemie Hi-Tech Ceramics, the fer-
rous metallurgy and coatings company Tecpro Corp., and the worldwide op- erations of Ashland Casting Solutions. The transaction is expected to close toward the end of 2010. “With research and development
facilities on three continents, ASK Chemicals can provide innovative products and services in a swift and target-oriented manner,” said Daniel Salak, president and chief executive officer of Tecpro. “The new ASK Chemi- cals possesses unique problem solving skills across the [metalcasting] process... [including] pattern design, coremaking, molding, feeding, metal filtration and the melting department.” The expanded joint venture will
combine the companies’ sales and marketing, product development units
and production assets with those of the existing joint venture. “The product offerings and geo-
graphic footprints of these compa- nies are complementary,” said James O’Brien, Ashland chairman and chief executive officer. Süd-Chemie is a specialty chemicals
