Metalcasting on Display at New Show

Make the most of the Cast in North America show, which debuts this March at CastExpo’10, with this guide.

A Metal Casting Design & Purchasing Staff Report

The previous CastExpo drew 8,000 attendees. This year, it will feature a Cast In North America pavilion for the fi rst time. A

new conference and exhibition show geared toward casting designers and purchasers will be held for the fi rst time March 20-23 in Or- lando as part of CastExpo’10, which is hosted by the American Foundry Society (AFS) and

North American Die Casting Association (NADCA). The Cast in North America show will feature a pavilion where casting customers can network with suppliers and discuss design challenges face to face. Several technical sessions, workshops and seminars also will be offered for casting designers and purchasers. CastExpo is the North America metalcasting industry’s

largest fair, featuring technical sessions offered through the Casting Congress and a large exhibition hall showing new equipment and technology. The last CastExpo, held in 2008 in Atlanta, drew 470 exhibitors and 8,000 attendees. The Cast in North America Pavilion will include exhibits

by metalcasting suppliers of various alloys and processes and unveil the winners of the 2010 Casting Competition sponsored by AFS and Metal Casting Design & Purchasing as well as the winners of the NADCA Diecasting Competition.

January/February 2010 Also new to CastExpo this year is the Metalcasting Technol-

ogy Theater, located on the exhibit fl oor. Casting designers and purchasers may be interested in the practical presenta- tions, “SSS/Squeeze Casting” and “Conversions of Fabrications to Castings: The First Step Toward Growing Your Own Casting Market,” as well as an economic forum on the metalcasting industry. Two diecasting workshops, held in classrooms away from the show fl oor, will focus on identifying and solving diecasting defects and designing products for diecasting. Social events during the conference provide other oppor-

tunities to meet current and potential casting suppliers. At the AFS Annual Banquet on Sunday, March 21, the society’s highest honor, the AFS Gold Medal, is presented. The Casting of the Year award will be presented at the AFS President’s Luncheon and Annual Business Meeting held Tuesday, March 23. NADCA will be honoring its Die Casting Design award winners at a luncheon Monday, March 22. The technical sessions and exhibition will be held in

the South Hall of the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. For more information about CastExpo’10 and the Cast in North America pavilion, go to www.castexpo.com.
