US Aluminum Castings Adds Capacity to Machine Shop

US Aluminum expects its new horizontal CNC mill to increase its machine shop capacity by approximately 30%

US Aluminum Castings, Entiat, Wash., has purchased

and received a new horizontal CNC mill that will increase the company’s machine shop capacity by 30%, according to a spokesperson. “We machine almost 100% of our parts because of the

demand for one stop shopping,” said US Aluminum’s chief executive officer. The executive said the machine, which it adds to its exist-

ing automated mills, will increase the company’s machining capacity due to its size, speed and rapid tooling changeover capability. According to the CEO, the company no longer operates any manual lathes in its machine shop. US Aluminum’s machine shop sits on 15,000 of the met-

alcasting facility’s 100,000 sq. ft. The company produces parts in the permanent mold, green sand, lost foam and nobake processes and, in addition to machining, offers heat treating, powder coating, inspection and assembly. The company produces parts primarily for the heavy truck, aerospace, military, marine and testing industries. According to the company’s chief, US Aluminum brought in additional machining capacity to answer the growth it has seen across all of the end-use markets it serves. “It is not dedicated to a particular job,” the CEO said.

“We’ve seen growth of our general marketplace. We’ve had customers come to us because they were concerned about other metalcasters’ ability to deliver a finished product.” US Aluminum Castings is a member of the Advanced Metals

Group, which produces aluminum and iron castings from five domestic metalcasting facilities.
