Ed’s memo

Score some goals!

We’ve been through soccer-mania and scoring goals has been the dominant phrase around us for a month!

The emotions of fans from various countries

have been on a roller-coaster ride varying from shouts of joy when the ball makes it through the goalposts to jaw-dropping disbelief at missed shots.

Soccer players from all over the world

over have shown their mastery but some have shown only enormous passion but not enough talent, and yet others great talent but not enough passion.

Now let’s take a mental journey together... what if one equated a professional PA or Admin Assistant to a soccer player! What would the distinguishing skills and qualities be?

In other words, what would make a PA be 2 issue 2 • careersuccess

as admired as a World-class soccer player? Why are soccer Clubs willing to pay a

fortune for them just to have them on their team?

What do you think they have that we could

learn from and make ourselves THE Star PA at an organisation? (Question1)

On the converse side, what constitutes a

yellow card behaviour for PAs? (Question 2) What qualifies for a red card? (Question 3)

Interesting questions! And the answers will be most revealing! Now here is your challenge: Pen down

your answers to the three questions above, and then ask your boss to participate and pen down his/her answers as well.

We would be really grateful to have you

PS. This edition’s articles will enhance, in some ways, your answers above.

send us both yours and the boss’ answers!

We will be debating these at the annual PA Summit on 16 September (see details inside this issue) and then we will share the findings in the press.

It will make for great reading! So, go on, take the “ball” and send it to

our “goalposts”. Let’s find out together what bosses and PAs

great “field” work and showmanship? honestly think makes for
