“All my shoots are fulfilled using Bowens lighting – their equipment is just perfect in every respect. It’s an absolutely vital element of my work.”

you might find tucked away find in your great grandfather’s shoebox – but then, when you look closely at it, the sum of its parts is far more than you think.” The boxer photographs on first glance just look like old faded vintage pictures of 1930s - style boxers. Look again and you see they are partly bionic. Old picture scans and Photoshop lent the work the authenticity of a matt print. But it was all painstakingly achieved. Says Adrian: “Normally these shoots comprise around a fortnight talking about ideas; another two weeks finding the right venue, then there’s the shoot and the CGI – that’s another

two or three weeks and then there’s the retouching – which is usually a further fortnight. It’s a complex exercise. Some new photographers today might look at this work and say ‘Well that’s all computer generated, so it’s about two or three days work’. But the reality is more like two or three months.”

Adrian recently picked up a Domestos bleach shoot for India and Thailand markets. “This came as a result of the client seeing my CGI imagery in my portfolio” he confirms. “They needed a big green monster germ coming out of a toilet – and they thought that I was the man for the job!”

But he believes trends are slowly changing. “I really think that photographers who try and keep their work purely photographic will prove to be more interesting to clients as time goes on. Some commissioners no longer desire work that looks too painterly.

I believe that photographers whose work shows up strongly in an advertisement will be seen as pros who really know what they are doing. Clients like to see great results that have been achieved without the use of too much technology.”
