Commander USN (Retired) Napoleon Hodges died unexpectedly on July 22, 2010 at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife Camille (Atkins), four children Gerald Nettles of Moss Point, MS; Natalie Stephenson of Wyncote, PA; Gillian Phillips of Centreville, VA; and Jason Hodges of Fairfax Station, VA; 10 grandchildren and six siblings.
Commander Hodges was born on September 30, 1940 in Fernwood, MS. He attended Tougaloo
His military service included Administrative Officer, Branch Clinic, Naval Training Center, San Diego, CA; Medical Administrative Officer, USS Kittyhawk, CV63; Readiness Command, Region Six, Washing- ton, DC; Director for Administration, Naval Hospital, Cherry Point, North Carolina; and Director for Administration, Naval Dental Center Mid-Atlantic in Norfolk, Virginia. He was a member of the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and the Meritori- ous Unit Commendation. He retired from the Navy as a Commander, Medical Service Corps in 2000 and was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
Funeral services will be held at Antioch Baptist Church, 6531 Little Ox Road, Fairfax Station, VA at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 30. Passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 24, 2010 surrounded by her family. She was born to Estelle and Raymond Schmandt on November 11, 1926 in Saint Louis, Missouri. Joyce was educated at Ursuline Academy, graduating on June 4, 1944. She was Summa Cum Laude at Maryville College of the Sacred Heart, now Maryville University, receiving a BA in history. In 1955, she finished nursing school with a BS degree from Saint Louis University. In the same year, she married George Meiburger on September 3 in the Church of the Holy Cross in Saint Louis. After raising seven children, she nursed at Providence Hospital in Washington DC from 1979-1981 followed by a position as an office nurse from 1984-1993. Joyce spent many years volunteering at the Bethesda Naval Hospital, the Red Cross, Saint Luke’s House and Suburban Hospital in Bethesda. She was a member of Congressional Country Club and the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of fifty-four years, George J. Meiburger. Joyce is survived by her seven children: Damien (Susan), Susan (Larry), James, John, Richard (Beatriz), Mary (Steve), and Sally (Anthony), as well as her grandchildren: Carolyn Marks, Stephen Marks, Kristofer Meiburger, Lianna Meiburger, Dominic
Giglio-Tos, Nicholas Giglio-Tos, Emma Loomis and Joseph Loomis, as well as her brother, Richard Schmandt of Saint Louis, Missouri.
Joyce’s interests included books, travel, baseball, swimming, theater and the cause of the Mentally Ill. Her children will most remember her intelligence, humor, patience and loving guidance.
Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held at The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, located on Western Avenue and Quesada Street NW at 11 a.m, Friday, July 30. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Saint Luke’s House in Bethesda, Maryland.

George was born in Washington, DC on July 28, 1916, where he graduated from Dunbar High School. He started college, joined the Coast Guard during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. After the war, George served as a civilian personnel officer for the Air Force in Denver, Colorado andWashington, DC. In 1962 he moved to Worcester, Massachusetts and worked at the Webstone Corporation for 36 years before retiring in 1998. George was fluent in several languages and often used this skill with Webstone’s European customers. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed puzzles and trivia games. Memorial services private.

He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory thirteen children Bernard, Andrew, Randall, Carolyn, Wendall, Chris, Francis and Dewayne Evans, Sheila Cross-Reid, Wanda Jackson, Michelle Terrell, Kirk Cross and Sylvester Gaines, three sisters Mary Gaskins, Dorothy Turner, Louise Lewis and one brother Joseph Evans, twenty-three grand- children thirty-six great grandchildren, twelve great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. Family will receive friends Friday July 30, 2010 from 6pm until 9pm at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church 711 North Columbus Street, Alexandria ,VA, Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday July 31 2010 at 11 AM. Judge Talbot was born July 25, 1946 in Niagara Falls, New York. He was the son of the late Dr. Francis Farron Talbot, Sr. and Florence Cecilia O’Donoghue Talbot. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam and worked as a Federal Administrative Law Judge. He was a life member of the D.A.V., a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Parish. He was a wonderful family man, cherishing his roles as husband, father, brother and grandfather.
Judge Talbot was appointed to the Board of Veterans’ Appeals by President Ronald Reagan and later appointed as a Federal Administrative Law Judge for the Social Security Administration by President George H.W. Bush.
