BP hastaken full responsibility forthe cleanupinthe Gulf. And that includes keeping you informed.
Searching For And Cleaning Up The Oil Every morning, over 50 spotter planes and helicopters search for oiloff the coast, heading to areaspreviouslymappedwithsatellite imageryand infrared photography.Onceoil is found, theyradio down to the 6,000 shipsand boatsofall sizesthatare supporting the cleanupeffortand workingtocollect the oil. Theseare thousandsoflocal shrimping andfishingboats organizedinto task forces andstriketeams, plusspecialized skimmersmobilized from as far as the Netherlands.
We have recovered more than 27 million gallons of oil-water mixture from the Gulf. Other methods have also helped remove millionsofadditionalgallonsofoil from the water. We’vedeployed more than 8 million feet of boom to protect beaches and sensitive wildlife areas.
Hurricane Preparedness In the event of a hurricane, our first priority is keeping people safe.Incoordinationwiththe Coast Guardand localofficials,we may suspend operations temporarily but have organized to resume themassoonaspossible.
Our Responsibility We have already spent more than $3.2 billion responding to the spill andonthe cleanup, andnoneofthiswill be paid by taxpayers. We will work in the Gulf as long as it takes to get this done. We maynot always be perfectbut we will do everythingwecan to make this right.
