had caused so much pain and injury to the animal that it sadly died soon after arriving at Secret World. This was reported to the police as it was an illegal snare (not that any snare should be legal ).The following day owners of a pub were reported to us for pulling down the swallow nests outside the building because of the mess they were making.
We will always see cruel injuries - it’s part of our job. Sometimes it is done without malice and other times it is done on purpose. When you get a spate of them in a week, it does make you wonder at the sheer mindless action that some people take. We attended a call out to a fox trapped in a home made snare which
A new ambulance
Secret World has been able to replace our old ambulance which has been a great help during the busy season. This vehicle which is fully equipped was made possible through a grant from the Animal Defence Trust and a legacy from Mr Hoby. Their support was very much appreciated. A thank you, especially from all the animals that it will help to save.

To cap it all this was followed by an injured herring gull from Burnham on Sea. Some youths had been throwing chips into the road in the hope of getting the birds run over. The gull was hit by a lorry driver who sounded his horn to the lads as he had made a ‘successful hit’. This was seen by children who ended up crying and one can only hope that they will grow up to be much more caring adults than we sometimes have to witness.
