Scared of the foxes?
The incident in London with the fox who entered a house and attacked two children shocked many people and the knee-jerk reaction has meant that many foxes will have been dispatched unnecessarily. The very fact that this has never been heard of before should alert the general public that this is a unique situation that hopefully will never ever happen again.
Fox cubs are very pretty when very young and people really should not try to rear them unless they know what they are doing. No young wild animals should ever be released unless they have a healthy fear of human beings. People are far more likely to be bitten by a cat or a dog than a fox, so it really is a case of putting these things into perspective. Don’t encourage foxes, or any wild
animal, to take food from your hand and really you only need to feed foxes and badgers when it is very dry and they are both unable to get earthworms which is their main diet. Large amounts of food put out for wild animals can lead to numbers of animals being far higher that their own territory can sustain.
We have had over 30 fox cubs in this year and the staff have enjoyed looking after them when they have come in very tiny. They are outside in grassed pens now and will be going for release in September.
Don’t forget, we are always looking for release sites for all kinds of animals so if you own land that you think may be suitable, please let us know. Call Secret World on 01278 783250.
