is an equally impressive 40ft living wall, which is fed by rainwater collected on the roof through an integrated irrigation system. What could bemore stunning and create a better backdrop than a tower of plants fed by light and water froma pretty roof lantern above? This is a well lit store and by this I mean the place is full of light, not the customary over indulgent, ultra powerful spotlights, or row upon row of fluorescents too often associated with retail, just a lovely natural illumination that is so easy on the eye, you barely notice.

If we nowmove to the Kings Road, once again the visualmerchandising and displays are fully integrated with and utilise every aspect and element of this vast store. 131 – 141 Kings Road has 8,000 sq ft of retail space all on one level, quite something when you consider that the Regent Street branch has 10,000 sq ft spread over three floors. Here plants also play a vital role and lead you through the store via a series of props covered inmoss starting in the window with amannequin wearing a full length, moss ball gown. Behind, amoss covered archway leads you through to the depths of the inner store, where an incredibly ornate and enormous roof lantern allows vast quantities of natural light into the store’s heart. Below, an indoor garden was under construction complete with pond and water features (I visited the store two weeks prior to opening and watched in awe as a large teamof display artists and workmen were still hard at it!). This is a shop with an extremely distinguished past being the old Antiquarius building and I’mguessing that this area was the grand hall that

served as the gentlemen’s club and pool hall. It has now been painstakingly restored and perfectly adapted to suit its new owners. Numerous large glass pendants adorn the leaded light lantern and create quite a spectacle, although I doubt they enhance the natural daylight in the slightest. The whole of this store and the Regent Street store are quite simply pure decoration and indulgence that are synonymous with Anthropologie. Oh, and originality of course.

They are truly unique store concepts that were developed in-house in the US, although over here Anthropologie worked closely with UK construction firmMackenzie Keck to ensure they complied with local planning and building regulations. They also have a teamof buyers who travel the world in search of originality and needless to say, an exquisitely talented teamof dedicated visual display artistes. Mackenzie Keck alsomanufactured the concrete floor at the Regent Street store and it’s worth noting that the beautiful staircase studded with nodules in this store was shipped in fromthe
