Lt. Col. M.B. Etheredge, ARNG-Ret. (member since 1999): Etheredge was honored in Huntsville, Texas, in June with a cel-


ebration of his 95th birthday. This World War II veteran wrote From Huntsville to Hell (AuthorHouse, 2007), recounting how he earned three Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars, and two Purple Hearts. After the war, he taught at Sam Houston State University in Texas. He also served three terms in the Texas state legisla- ture and received the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor in 2003.


Lt. Col. Harry Foster III, USAF-Ret. (Life Member since 1977): After 23 years of service, as an enlisted servicemember and a com-


missioned officer, Foster earned a Master of Divinity degree and served congre- gations in Texas and Arkansas. Now retired from pastoral ministry, he continues to serve by teaching Old Testament studies at Texas Lutheran University.


Lt. Col. Samuel E. Hayes III, ARNG (member since 2007): Pennsylvania native Hayes commands Fort Indiantown Gap, an


Army National Guard installation that trains all branches of service. He began his military career in 1986 as an enlisted antiarmor specialist and graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1990, with an Infantry commission. He has deployed to Kosovo and Iraq and has overseen the transformation of the 56th Brigade Combat Team (BCT) to the Army’s 6th Stryker BCT.


Lt. Col. Douglas Shannon, USA-Ret. (member since 1995; Life Member since 2009): Shannon served 25 years in the Army


and received a Silver Star during the Tet Offensive in 1968. After retiring in 1981, he taught criminal justice at Fresno State University in California, retir- ing from teaching in 1990. Shannon is a past president of MOAA’s Supersti- tion Mountain (Ariz.) Chapter of MOAA. He was inducted into the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame in 2006.
