MOAA Supports the

Legislation: MOAA’s legislative team staunchly has opposed force reductions and advocated manpower in- creases every year since 1999 to ease increasing strains on active duty, Guard, and Reserve servicemembers and their families. MOAA won inclusion of activated reservists in the new Post-9/11 GI Bill and is pushing to count all activated service since Sept. 11, 2001 (rather than since Jan. 28, 2008, under current law), for early Guard/Reserve retirement credit.

Health care: MOAA fought successfully to lower pre- miums by nearly 50 percent for TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS) participants and won TRICARE coverage for gray-area reserve retirees, which will be available later this year. MOAA sponsors insurance supplements under its MEDIPLUS® program that will work with these TRICARE programs.

Benefits: MOAA headquarters staff travel across the country to speak to Guard and Reserve members about their military benefits, including changes with activation/ deactivation, military health care, personnel issues, and other military or VA programs including the GI Bill and TRS. Visit www.moaa.org/locator/eventsearch.asp to find out when an MOAA representative will be speak- ing in your area. MOAA representatives are available to

Guard & Reserve

counsel guardmembers and reservists through significant life events such as reserve retirement and aging into the receipt of pay and benefits. MOAA also exhibits at Guard conferences to help attendees with benefits issues.

Family support: MOAA offers family-specific publica- tions “Focus on You: A Career Handbook for the Military Spouse” and “Family Matters: A Personal Inventory for Peace of Mind.” Visit www.moaa.org/infoexchange or call MOAA’s Member Service Center (MSC) at the phone number below for copies. MOAA’s legislative team has pushed hard and won additional funding for family- support programs and inclusion of families in Yellow Ribbon reintegration initiatives. Check out MOAA’s Mili- tary Family Legislative Action Guide at www.moaa.org/ legisactionguide. Spouses also can read about military family-related news and offerings on MOAA’s spouse blog at www.moaa.org/spouseblog.

To learn more: MOAA’s MSC helps resolve problems with military health care, insurance, military pay, and other military or VA programs. Member service repre- sentatives can connect members to MOAA staff who can give more in-depth information on any of the issues listed above. Call (800) 234-MOAA (6622) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Eastern time.
