Six Flags Great America New adventures for 2010
A 45ft-tall ropes course, a brand new nightly parade and an interactive fantasy game for kids are among the additions this season at Six Flags Great America, Gurnee, Illinois. The all-new Glow in the Park parade by Gary
Goddard Entertainment (GGE) comprises multi- coloured illuminated floats, custom-composed music, singers, dancers, drummers, stilt walkers and more. The nightly spectacle features more than 60 performers and 35 support staff. Starting in the park’s Hometown Square, it takes approximately 30 minutes to wind through four themed sections of the park including Carousel Plaza, New Orleans and Mardi Gras. To produce the music for the parade, GGE enlisted
one of Cirque Du Soleil’s premier composers, Benoit Jutras. Raul Rodriguez was commissioned to design the floats. Michael La Fleur, whose résumé includes artistic co-ordinator for Celine Dion’s A New Day show in Las Vegas and extensive Broadway work, created the choreography. The new SkyTrail ropes course, which was
Glow in the Park
provided by Ride Entertainment Systems, provides guests with a variety of challenges across three levels up to 45ft (14-metres) high. Users are secured into a custom-fitted harness with a patented safety system.
Zamperla Air Racer
Combining several different movements, Air Racer is the latest family thrill ride from Zamperla. Open since the end of May at Luna Park in Coney Island,
New York, the ride also provides a spectacular visual effect.
Once locked into the overhead track, they are free to venture onto any of the 48 elements. Each guest chooses their own adventure
according to their skill level.
An adventure of a different kind is provided by MagiQuest. Players in the live-action interactive game enter a fantasy world using a magical wand equipped with wireless technology to unlock more than 80 special effects and save a princess from the claws of a dragon. Six Flags guests can play for as little as one hour or as much as an entire day. MagiQuest co-inventor Denise Weston, a mother
SkyTrail
and trained psychologist, sought to create a game that would stimulate the mind of children and promote teamwork, strategic thinking and family bonding in a fun yet educational environment.
Air Race takes riders on a journey replicating the experiences and sensations of an acrobatic aeroplane flight, with banks, loops, dives and weightlessness that will test even the most experienced thrill seekers.
Accommodating up to
24 riders at a time in six, four-seater aeroplanes, the 26.5-metre diameter attraction turns at 8.5 rpm with an additional motor driven rotation on each arm. A variety of ride programs are available and “pilots” experience accelerations of 3G as they go upside down. Class 5 over-the-shoulder restraints allow passengers as short as from 1.2-metres to ride. Theoretical hourly capacity is 480 riders. Zamperla is offering both a standard and deluxe version of the ride, plus custom theming.
