Wise up to increased profits

ByCharlesWhitfield, newproduct developmentmanager for Carl Kammerling International

I

t is fair to say that the key to the success of a business is its people. When staff have sound knowledge of the

workplace, commitment to the job and more satisfaction and enjoyment in their careers, customers will reap the rewards from more superior standards of service. Quite simply, a confident, well trained workforce equals contented customers, which in turn equates to increased profits. Research by the Learning and Skills

Council highlighted that staff training plays a key role in increased job satisfaction with 90% of employees and 92% of employers agreeing that it makes a difference. Two thirds of employees say they worked harder as a result of learning new skills. This research also revealed that the more employers invest in training and in developing their employees, the more secure and successful their own businesses become. In today’s commercial environment

employers expect more from staff and equally employees expect opportunities for personal and professional growth. With the right training staff will feel more confident and actively communicate more effectively. Introducing and implementing a programme of training can have a ripple effect throughout a company, improving morale, retention, productivity and ultimately profits. Granted, the current economic climate

has impacted negatively on training budgets, but wholesalers and their workforce could benefit from new thinking towards training to help maximise the profits they achieve. To put things into perspective, online training delivers fast, localised training at an affordable price. It can be organised and delivered in a consistent format, producing measurable results and help employees build knowledge. Above all, online training is cheaper, faster, and

round-the-clock, one-stop shop of information for customers and their staff to access at a time convenient to them. Users can dip in and out for specific queries or dedicate time to learning in detail about the C.K tools and Kasp ranges under the Carl Kammerling umbrella. Productwise features a range of

easier to deliver than conventional training. Research has discovered that online

training produces a 60% faster learning curve than instructor-led training alone. Furthermore, with online training wholesalers can easily and effectively track the progress of their employees, accessing test scores to allow wholesalers to track the strong and weak areas for each worker so that these can be improved upon. Overall, online training is easy to use

and can fit in around peak trading times, saving wholesalers both time and money. In addition, according to Training Magazine a substantial 50%-70% can be saved on training when online resources are utilised instead of off-site classroom training. The figures speak for themselves! In support of its customers, Carl

Kammerling International has launched Productwise – an innovative web-based product training tool, designed to help counter staff increase their knowledge of Carl Kammerling’s products and sell the range more effectively. It’s a free and easy to use on-line

resource, available at: www.productwise.co.uk, offering a

modules from handsaws and padlocks to tape measures and tool systems, all of which provide in-depth details of the ranges, including the history and development of tools, product features and benefits, information on how products are created and details of the various products within each range. At the end of each module users can

choose to undertake a short assessment to help consolidate what they have learnt. On completion of the quick-fire multiple-choice questions, those who achieve a pass rate of over 80% are awarded a certificate in recognition of their efforts. Created to support customers with

simple and effective training, Productwise will help to increase product knowledge, sharpen selling techniques and improve confidence amongst staff to ultimately encourage additional sales. By providing details of Carl

Kammerling’s products, their application, features and benefits as an on-line reference tool, we hope to increase product knowledge amongst counter staff and encourage additional sales for our customers. Online training is a valuable and cost

effective method of continuous learning, enhancing productivity and providing wholesalers with knowledgeable and motivated staff dedicated to providing a quality service to customers. Empowering staff with increased product knowledge can only lead to happy customers and in turn increased profits.
