Researchers around Prof. Dr. Gert Heinrich at Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research, Dresden, Germany, and De-yi Wang from Sichuan Univer- sity, China, proved that for rubber production zinc oxide can be replaced by zinc-containing hydrotal- cites, so called self-assembling organomodified Co/ Al based layered double hydroxides (LDH). That way, the necessary share of zinc for rubber produc- tion can be reduced by 90% compared to conven- tional methods. Considering the fact that zinc oxide threatens the environment it is an invaluable advan- tage.

ionic batteries in electric cars. Other exhibits inclu- de energy conversion applications from so-called ambient energy sources – e.g. sun light and body heat – to feed wireless sensor systems. Furthermore, the Chemnitz scientists present solutions for energy supply from the electrostatic field of power trans- mission lines. It aims at supplying the sensor nodes of a network for monitoring these lines with energy. In addition, they show novel strain gauges based on

Since organic modification for nanofiller is deemed to be necessary before applying it into polymer, the successful preparation of organomodified Co/ Al-LDH will be significantly beneficial to the pre- paration and investigation of novel polymer/LDH nanocomposite.

At the same time, LDH serves and therefore incre- ase the rubber?s strength properties. Furthermore, it is possible to produce transparent rubber material. Besides these novel material properties it is essential for industrial production that the new vulcanization agents can easily be integrated into conventional technologies. De-yi Wang, A.
