Instruments Group, and Ostendo Technologies are pleased to announce the availability of Semi- Polar (11-22) GaN layer on sapphire substrate wafers using Ostendo’s proprietary design and TDI’s proprie- tary Hydride Vapour Phase Epitaxy (HVPE) technology. This joint development now provides the opportu- nity to leading High Brightness Light Emitting Diode (HBLED) and Laser Diode developers to increase op- tical efficiency significantly compared with structures grown on c-plane GaN substrates.

A compact open-loa- ding tool, PlasmaPro NGP80 offers versatile plasma etch and deposition solutions on one platform with convenient open loading. D Vision, developer of Quantum Light™ nanotechnology-based products for solid state


lighting and displays, has purchased from Motorola (NYSE: MOT) a patent portfolio pertaining to the use of quantum dot technology in display and lighting products.


The addition of this portfolio augments QD Vision’s position in quantum dot intellectual property. Inclu- ded in the acquisition is U.S. Patent No. 5,442,254 of Jaskie, one of the earliest patents on the use of photoluminescent quantum dots in product appli- cations, and pending applications relating to the use of quantum dots to a wide variety of display appli- cations, including LCD backlight units. Prior to this acquisition, QD Vision’s position in quantum dot intellectual property already included nine issued pa- tents and more than 130 patents pending originating at MIT and QD Vision.


QD Vision is developing Quantum Light™ solutions for display backlight units (BLUs) used in several markets, including cell phones, laptops, and TVs, and plans to ship its first products in 2011. The company
