NXCAM The newest Sony camera format, NXCAM, records to Memory Stick Pro Duo flash memory cards or SDHC flash memory cards, or the 128GB HXR- FMU128 flash memory unit. The first model – the HXR-NX5E –was launched at the start of the year.
HDV The HDV format is Sony’s entry-level tape-based format. Newer HDV cameras, including the HVR-Z5E and the HVR-Z7E, are hybrid models with the ability to record to both HDV tape and Compact Flash memory cards.
XDCAM EX XDCAM EX cameras record onto high quality, long-lasting SxS Pro cards or more affordable SxS-1 cards. The range consists of the popular PMW-EX1R, semi-shoulder mount PMW-EX3 and fully shoulder-mount PMW-350 models.
XDCAM HD422 Rather than recording to memory card, XDCAM HD422 models store file-based rushes on robust, inexpensive Professional Discs. The range includes the PDW-700 and PDW-F800, which both record high-quality 4:2:2 HD images.
HDCAM The long-standing HD tape format HDCAM has been the format of choice for dramas and high- end docs for years. The flagship HDCAM model, the F900R, has captured the images for some of the best looking TV of the last few years.
HDCAM SR The top-of-the-range HDCAM SR is a top-end mastering format and is also the recording format used by Sony’s SRW-9000 camera, which provides the ultimate picture quality for a tape- based recording system, with ultra-low noise.
