Host City: Cardiff Cardiff is proud to host the Armed Forces Day 2010 celebration of our

Armed Forces. The day will begin with the pomp and spectacle of a military parade setting out from Cardiff Castle in the heart of the city at 11:00 to Cardiff Bay and waterfront, where a range of events, activities and artistic performances will be staged on land, sea and air to entertain visitors throughout the day. The parade will feature over 1,500 personnel, which includes current servicemen and women, veterans and cadets, along with a number of marching bands. After taking the salute in front of the magnificent Wales Millennium Centre, the parade will join VIPs and spectators in the arena of Roald Dahl Plass at noon for a Drumhead Service, a centuries-old traditional ceremony more commonly conducted in the field during armed conflict. This will finish with a fly-over by the historic Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. There will also be displays and exhibitions

from the Royal Marines Commando Display and the opportunity to go aboard the impressive HMS Kent frigate which will be docked in nearby Roath Basin. Veterans can meet up and reminisce over refreshments in a designated Campaign Reunion Centre. Singing sensations drawn from the

services will take to the stage from 17:45 to thrill the crowds into the late evening. The Soldiers will be headlining, a vocal trio of serving British Army Soldiers who have seen active service in the Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan. They will be supported by the nation’s favourite choir, Only Men Aloud, whose

fresh, dynamic approach to the traditional Welsh male choirs saw them triumph in BBC’s Last Choir Standing competition and land a major record deal with Universal Music. There will be a fitting finale of fireworks over Cardiff Bay at 22:00 that will leave a lasting impression of a true day of celebration. For more information visit www.armedforcesdaycardiff.co.uk
