International support: ‘Force for Good’ In recent years, Air Power has been a criti- cal element of the provision of rapid hu-


manitarian assistance around the world. From assisting in the Kurdish refugee cri- sis of 1991, to maintaining an air bridge into Sarajevo in the mid-1990s – which lasted longer than the Berlin Airlift and carried more freight - to providing relief in Mozambique following the floods of 2000 and Indonesia in the aftermath of the Tsunami, to helping the people of Pa- kistan after the 2005 earthquake, air has provided reach, speed of response and flexibility. Moreover, Operation HIGH- BROW, the evacuation of over 4,500 Brit- ish and other nationals from Lebanon in July 2006, once again demonstrated the key role that Air Power plays in joint operations in potentially hostile envi-

RAF Chinook helicopters pro- vided the ship-shore-ship link not only to remove people from danger, but also to deploy UK and UN officials to assist in resolving the political and humanitar- ian crisis. The RAF is demonstrably able to act quickly and decisively in response to a range of humanitarian crises around the world as a ‘Force for Good’ - howev- er, this is only possible because the RAF fields a balanced suite of capabilities un- derpinned by committed Servicemen and
