Arthur 4D Simworx wows Futuroscope

Futuroscope, the French science park, has enlisted the help of the UK’s largest simulation specialist to provide key elements in one of its latest attractions. Based on the Arthur trilogy by director Luc Beeson,

Arthur L’Aventure 4D Adventure was introduced at the start of the year. It takes guests into the fairytale world of the Minimoys, tiny beings living beneath the soil riding on the back of flying “lady buggies.”

The attraction boasts a previously unseen combination of technologies,

including a 3D animated film viewed on a giant IMAX dome screen, synchronised motion simulator platforms and multi-sensory in-theatre effects. The motion platforms were contributed by Simworx, using the company’s Stargazer vehicles. Visitors travel through the attraction on one of four 25-seater carriages, which

mimic the flight of the lady buggies from the film. Each vehicle moves along three axes and the feeling of flying through the air is reinforced by a breeze against the face. The theatre was previously home to Race for Atlantis, but did not feature the moving vehicles. “We have carried out a major overhaul of the existing ride with a new control

system, motion programming and, of course, the platforms themselves,” highlights Simworx managing director Terry Monkton. “Hand on heart, I believe it’s the best motion simulator attraction after Universal’s Spiderman and we are delighted to have contributed to that achievement.”

Ghost Ship docks at Morey’s Piers

A new walk-through attraction has arrived at Morey's Piers, Wildwood, New Jersey. The Ghost Ship, until now shrouded in mystery, is a frightfully haunting dark walk-through following in the tradition of attractions popular along the Jersey shore. Based inside a 150ft-long, 14,000 sq ft fake cargo ship that has apparently

crash-landed into Morey's former miniature golf course, the storyline involves a “Philadelphia Experiment” that has gone horribly wrong. The $3-million immersive experience features costumed actors and

animatronics spread across multiple interconnecting decks and ramps. The walk-through lasts nearly half an hour. A full profile of Ghost Ship will follow in a future issue of Park World.

Jay Peak reaches for the sky

Visitors to Jay Peak ski resort’s new undercover waterpark will be offered a tantalising peak into the sky thanks to a retractable roof. The new facility will open in the fall (autumn) of 2011 and play an important part of transforming Jay Peak (Vermont, USA) into a year-round vacation destination. The aluminium framed waterpark enclosure will be supplied by OpenAire

Inc, the tallest the company has built in North America. Measuring 140ft x 280ft and standing 43ft high, it will also include a curved section at the apex allowing for a 55ft slide tower.
