National Open College Network (NOCN)

The National Open College Network is delighted to be supporting Adult Learners’ Week. We have a long tradition of working in the field of adult learning and recognise the important work that
NIACE does in profiling and celebrating the achievement of learners.

We have been privileged to look through so many NOCN learner nominations and witness the levels of commitment and enthusiasm demonstrated by our learners – it is a breathtaking experience.

We are particularly delighted this year to be awarding a Union Learning Representative and our warmest congratulations go to our Outstanding Achiever, Terry Sandford, a Unite member from Stafford.
After having felt that education was not for him, Terry overcame this, and through the support of his trade union and

the impressive TUC Unionlearn Programme, he now encourages and supports others in the workplace to achieve their potential.
His learning achievements have had such an impact on the workplace and he continues to be an inspiration to his fellow workers.

Long may his inspiration and the Unionlearn Programme continue.
