Damage to Nigal’s arm from an industrial accident meant he was no longer able to work, so rather than remain on benefits,
he felt that education was the way for him to find a job. After 24 years out of education, Nigal completed a university access course in Photography at Dudley College.
Although he found it difficult after so long out of education, he passed and moved on to a BA Photography degree at Wolverhampton University.
Nigal’s photography work has been described by his university tutor as ‘dynamic, mature and exemplary’.
Nigal explained what his return to education has meant: “Simple, it has changed my life.
I have gone from being almost housebound, suicidal and depressed to almost happy with a chance to start out again and to have a
greater chance to return into the job market with an education and training in something I greatly enjoy doing,
as well as gaining new friends and a reason to carry on, not to mention a chance to once again get a life.”
