Through many generations of change, Trinity College Dublin has forged an international reputation for educating outstanding graduates and delivering world class research that pioneers the frontiers of knowledge.

At Trinity, we are keenly aware that our achievements would not be possible without the vision and support of our donors and volunteers who not only share our ambition for a better future but have an understanding of the special role of the University in contributing to its shape.

Last year in my introduction to this report I stated my belief that, despite the

unprecedented challenges we faced, it would be universities like Trinity with its devoted supporters, that would create opportunities out of change and lead the way to a renewed and wiser society. And this year, if you look at the projects we are driving, I can see how right I was.

As this report for 2008/09 indicates, the initiatives that are being delivered thanks to the generosity and commitment of our donors, alumni and friends, are pivotal to helping the College deliver the ambitions of the University’s Strategic Plan* for 2009/14 which we launched last year.

I hope that this report shows that your funding is being used wisely and innovatively.

We are proud of Trinity’s contribution to a better world, especially in these extraordinary times - we could not deliver without your foresight, help and support.
