NEW Texture-Modified Range
introducing a ground-breaking range for dysphagia patients
All patients deserve meals that are flavoursome, nutritious and appetising. However, food for people with swallowing and eating problems (dysphagia) has traditionally been bland and visually unappealing.
For the first time, a ground-breaking range of texture-modified meals makes dining more pleasurable and nourishing for dysphagia patients. Not only does each main course and dessert look good and taste great, every dish delivers the high levels of nutrition patients need to recover.

“Good nutritious food is essential medicine that helps patients get better,” said Rosemarie Hoyle from apetito. “For those with dysphagia, it’s even more important.”
“Our range of texture-modified meals is visually appealing and doesn’t compromise on flavour and nutrition. This means patients are more likely to consume dishes to enhance recovery and maintain wellbeing.”

Swallowing difficulties can make consuming essential calories and nutrients difficult, leading to malnutrition. However, as Rosemarie explained, there’s a further factor that discourages eating: how food looks. “Patients are often unenthusiastic about food and unappetising liquidised meals compound matters. We all eat with our eyes and people with dysphagia are no different. Issues such as the embarrassment associated with eating soft food means dining can also become an emotional issue.”
The world’s first texture-modified range to combine flavour, nutrition and visual appeal comes thanks to eighteen months of research and consultation with caterers, dietitians and carers. The result is a range of over fifty energy-dense and high- protein hot main courses and desserts that helps caterers maintain interesting

menus for people with category C and D dysphagia. As with all apetito meals, each dish is frozen when prepared, locking in freshness and available to reheat and serve when required.
“When creating the range, our challenge was to develop dishes that looked and tasted like a normal meal,” said Rosemarie. “Our customers often told us about the difficulties involved with feeding dysphagia patients, particularly maintaining the right consistency and nutrition while encouraging them to eat. This new range solves all those problems. Each part of the meal is moulded for a natural appearance and keeps its shape after heating. So every dish really does look as good as it tastes.”
apetito and its consumer brand, Wiltshire Farm Foods, provide a complete catering service covering hospitals, nursing homes and at-home care.
