DIETICIAN

£24,831 - £33,436

Institute of Naval Medicine, Gosport

This is a fixed-term appointment which is expected to last for one year, but may be open to the possibility of extension or permanency.

This is an opportunity for a qualified, HPC-Registered Dietician to join the Applied Physiology Department within the Institute of Naval Medicine’s Environmental Medicine and Science division. The team undertakes a wide range of practical scientific support and research activities, which are requested by diverse parties from throughout the armed forces and other MOD agencies, and have a direct impact on policy and practice.

Your primary focus will be to support a three-year research programme examining feeding and nutrition in the armed forces during training, whilst in-unit and during overseas operations. You will also make valuable contributions to a range of other projects that would benefit from your specialist expertise. Conference attendance and publication of your research findings in peer-reviewed journals will be encouraged and supported.

Professional experience is vital – ideally in a military or exercise science context. Keen to use your knowledge to assist with applied military issues, you demonstrate a sound understanding of research

methods, varied approaches to nutrition/dietetics data collection, and statistics. You should demonstrate an understanding of exercise physiology in relation to physical training. Qualifications in exercise training/instruction will be advantageous, but are not essential.

For further information, please contact Dr Jo Fallowfield on 02392 768067.

Applications must be made online. Only those applicants who declare a disability which prevents them accessing and/or using Information Technology will be permitted to apply offline. Under these circumstances, they must request an application form from the People Service Centre.

The MOD will only respond in relation to your application if it is to be considered further. If you have not received a response to your application within six weeks from the closing date, you must assume that you have been unsuccessful on this occasion.

Applicants found suitable but not selected for this campaign may be considered for other similar positions (in various locations) for the following 12-month period.

Closing date: 14 June 2010. Visit www.civilianjobs.mod.uk or call 0800 345 7772 to find out more.
