Kudos

They come to MOAA with various interests and experiences, and together they make the association strong. Read on to learn more about your fellow MOAA members.

Maj. Thomas E. Convery, USAF-Ret. (member since 1995):

After enlisting at age 17 in the Army Air Corps, Convery served in

World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He graduated with bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the then-State Teachers College at Fitchburg, Mass. In his teach- ing career, Convery helped World War II, Korea, and Vietnam veterans who left high school early to achieve their high school diplomas. He was recognized by Boston’s WCVB as an A+ Person for educating area students about veterans. As the author of five books, Convery donated all proceeds to six charities.

Lt. Col. Jack D. Lamle, USA-Ret. (Life Member since 2007):

Lamle enlisted in the Army in 1955 and received a direct commis-

sion to first lieutenant in 1964. He was involved in the Marine Corps’ adoption of the Harrier jet and commanded the U.S. Army Medical Research Unit, Korea, and the mounted color guard at Fort Carson, Colo. Lamle taught Army Junior ROTC in Denver and was senior Army instructor of the year for 1984-85.

Col. H. David O’Malie, AUS-Ret. (Life Member since 1991):

O’Malie was drafted into the Army in 1958 and received a direct commission as a second lieutenant in the Army Reserve. Upon release from active duty in 1962, he had a dual Army Reserve-civil service career. O’Malie retired from Army Civil Affairs in 1995 and the U.S. Customs Service in 1998. O’Malie is a member of the retiree council at Fort Belvoir, Va.

Maj. Kenneth M. Slye, USA-Ret. (Life Member since 1996):

After 20 years in Army aviation, including two tours in Vietnam,

Slye worked another 20 years as a civil servant, retiring from the secretary of defense’s staff in 1996. He also was a part-time international tennis official and chaired matches at the U.S. Open, Wimbledon, and the French Open. He’s president — for the fourth time — of MOAA’s Louisville (Ky.) Chapter.
