It’s a criminal offence to put them up, but you have to be caught doing it to be prosecuted. Instead, I’d work with the phone companies to make sure every single one of those numbers is immediately cut off or issued with a £1,000 fine—attack the numbers, not the poor girls working behind them. I’ve never seen such blatant advertising in any other country I’ve been to.

Aleksander Mukomelov has come

up with sight-strengthening sunglasses. The OAED, or “Optical Accommodation Exercise Device”, glasses use lens surfaces that change shape (powered by kinetic energy) to make the eyes constantly shift focus, and develop strength. Who knew glasses could be so complex?

Nobody enjoys having their temperature taken—least of all children. But how can you make it less of a headache for mum or dad? Step on up the “So Sweet” thermometer from TAIWAN. Designed by a team at Chiao Tung Uni- versity, it’s tipped with a lollipop that melts on contact with saliva, making temperature-taking a real treat.

You wouldn’t normally ask your scales what to eat. But US designer Ji Lee’s “Diet Scales” are no ordinary scales. Rather than revealing your weight, they tell you what you should eat. So if they point to deep-fried pork, tuck in. If they say lettuce—well, you can figure that one out!
