10 Questions With Olivier Bizard

General Manager of Kennedy Hygiene Products Limited

create new markets, test ideas and have a professional approach to strategy and implementation.

Q3 What was your first job?

I was a financial auditor with Arthur Andersen in France.

Q4 If money was no object, what car would you buy?

I would buy something else. Probably a property in rural France.

Each month we ask a cleaning industry VIP the Tomorrow’s Cleaning 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Olivier Bizard, General Manager of Kennedy Hygiene Products Limited...

Q1 How did you get into the cleaning industry?

I previously worked with Groupe Elis in France. Elis is involved in a broad range of hygiene services including laundry, work wear, flat linen, washroom service, coffee machines and water coolers. From Elis I moved to work for Kennedy, which is a subsidiary of the group and this brought me into the cleaning industry.

Q2 Who, in any other industry do you most admire?

I admire strong characters, people who create markets and opportunities, charismatic individuals like Steve Jobs and Richard Branson, those who drive industry forward,

Q5 How would you improve the cleaning industry?

I would like to start by saying that the cleaning industry in the UK is actually quite dynamic compared with other countries. To improve the cleaning industry, service is key, that and good serviceable products. Some companies already have very good standards which have been reached by giving constant attention to detail and allowing no room for complacency. I believe that the way forward is to reinforce the good that these companies already exhibit.

Q6 What did you want to be when you were little?

I wanted to be a professional golfer or an explorer but unfortunately there were very few vacancies available.

Q7 What do you do to unwind?

I look after my new baby! I enjoy cooking. Our household is French so, of course, it has to be French cuisine. I enjoy reading - particularly biographies. I also like sport, travelling and I am particularly partial to visiting art dealers and antique/art auctions, especially those in Italy.

Q8 If you could have a dinner party with any three people, dead or alive, with one other person cooking and the other person providing the music, who would they be and why?

My wife would have to be the person doing the cooking as she is a professional chef. My cousin would provide the music as he is a professional conductor and, finally, for conversation Marilyn Monroe would be a good choice!

Q9 What, do you think, is the future of the cleaning industry?

I think that in the future we will see more concern about health issues, infection control and hygiene. There will be an increased awareness of risk of infection, resulting illness and how to prevent it.

Stan Atkins of BICSc asks...

Q10 What keeps you in the cleaning industry?

It’s not a glamorous industry but it is crucial. It’s a good area to be involved in because it is evolving quite rapidly and I believe that it will continue to do so. It’s an essential and important industry and that’s what keeps me here.
