APPE hones in on new market

A unique dual colour manufacturing process for PET bottles will be a major highlight of the Artenius PET Packaging Europe (APPE) stand at Total Processing & Packaging 2010.

The dual colour process utilising specialist injection moulding equipment enables PET bottles to be produced in a graduated shade of two different colours to create an individual and eye-catching appearance that enhances branding and ensures maximum shelf impact.

Virginia Fernandez: “truly one in a million”

Delia Cannings, Director of Business Development, Birmingham Metropolitan College, has paid respect to her retiring colleague, Virginia Fernandez, who contributed to cleaning science for over four decades.

Delia said: “Virginia Fernandez has done her last systematic overlapping pass at Leicestershire General Hospital. “I have been honoured to support Virginia over many years whilst she studied a range of cleaning science qualifications, City Guilds and BICSc to name a few. “For the record many years back, when Virginia studied the City and Guilds 7641 part one Cleaning Science and 764 part two cleaning

science and supervision, her results were outstanding achieving a distinction on the written paper.

“This was an exceptional result when you take consider the fact that the results were attained through studying via distance learning; whilst balancing a demanding full time position and the needs of a young family.

“Good luck, happy retirement, and sincere thanks for your valuable contribution to the health and well being of hundreds of patients and the ultimate success of the Leicestershire General Hospital.

“Virginia Fernandez, truly one in a million.”

Building Cleanability Awards hit the big smoke

body lotions, and a 70cl spirits bottle, which offers major energy savings during manufacture and transport compared to an equivalent glass bottle. This new bottle builds on the success of the 35cl version, which won the Sustainability Award at last year’s UK Packaging Awards.

The 2009/2010 Building Cleanability Awards scheme culminates with a prestigious Presentation Luncheon on Monday 12th July in The Great Hall of London’s famous Guildhall.

Promoted by the cleaning industry Livery Company – The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners – this biennial Awards scheme is designed to focus attention on the strengths and weaknesses of building design and construction which impact on levels of cleaning effectiveness – both from a cost and user comfort perspective.

This year’s entries are currently being assessed by the team of Awards Assessors and the major winners will be announced and Awards presented at the ceremony on 12th July.

Writer and comedian Barry Cryer will be the celebrity guest for the second time, after his popular appearance at the 2006 Awards Luncheon and Musicians, Pikemen and Musketeers from The Honourable Artillery Company will be in attendance to add pomp and splendour to this highlight event in the cleaning industry calendar.
