Enlarged Prostate
Your prostate gland sits just below your bladder and wraps around your urethra, the tube urine and semen use to leave your body. As you age, the number of normal (noncan- cerous) cells in your prostate increases, so your prostate gets bigger. This extra growth can cause uncomfortable symptoms.
How It Works
1 An enlarged prostate can squeeze your urethra, so urine has trouble getting through. It can also keep you from emptying your bladder completely, so you have to go more often.
2 An enlarged prostate can press on your bladder. This irritates your bladder and causes it to contract, giving you the urge to go even when your bladder isn’t full.

Over time, not emptying your bladder completely can cause serious complications, like kidney and bladder damage. But having enlarged prostate won’t cause or increase your risk of prostate cancer.
