A
viation maintenance is a highly
diverse and varied business and
when you cover all of it – as we do
– trying to write an all-encompassing article
is not easy. As we looked into the Giants
of MRO concept one thing became clear
quickly – there’s really two spheres: airline
(heavy metal) MRO and general aviation
(GA) MRO. A GA aircraft is one with 19
or fewer seats. The heavy metal list has a
distinctly international flavor, whereas the
GA business is very much dominated by
the US.
Choosing the top 20 heavy metal
MROs was a challenge and we have
used a number of factors to arrive at our
list, including yearly revenue, manhours,
facilities, employees, and the more tenuous
factors of ambition and innovation. The
list is alphabetical as any other combined
hierarchy proved impossible to define.
