Environics’ EnviScreen Tested in Helsinki Subway Emergency Exercise
A state of an emergency was exercised in Finland’s Helsinki Subway during the night of 22nd and 23rd October. The main purpose of the exercise was to test
operational preparedness and co-operation between Helsinki City area authorities. The experience of the exercise was reported and analysed. Observations will be
used to design and improve rescue personnel training and future exercises. Emergency instructions and system development will be based on this exercise.
The EnviScreen Emergency Management system was as a key tool during the whole exercise. The Helsinki Subway has utilised the system already for more than
10 years. The system provides real-time situational awareness of the tunnel air flows and fire for the rescue forces. With the EnviScreen system, the first responders
can quickly plan as well as choose the safest route to the emergency site and start immediate actions.
