cruellest disenchantment of his career. After
a two-minute feeling out period, Torres
finally let loose with a couple of leg kicks
that seemed to awaken the beast. Bowles
came in swinging, took his opponent
down, then stood back up as Torres threw
some hard upkicks. Three minutes into the
match, Bowles landed a right hook that
took Torres’ legs from under him, before
the challenger finished the job on the
ground, unleashing a barrage of punches
that forced the referee to intervene at 3:57
of the first round. Bowles, who now holds
a perfect 8-0 record, thus earned the WEC
Bantamweight title. His probable opponent
for his first title defense, could very well be

two fighters delivered the best fight of the
night in a battle charged with intensity. In
the end it was Dominick Cruz who gained
the favour of the judges, notably thanks
to his domination standing and regular
takedowns throughout the fight. Takeya
Mizugaki, another contender for the ban-
tamweight strap, faced off with veteran Jeff
Curran. Dominant, against an active Curran,
Mizugaki took a split decision after barely
escaping a triangle in the third round.

the exchanges, took a vicious right hand
and met with the canvas. Castillo followed
up, letting loose his ground & pound, and
put an end to the fight. Of the 11 fights on
the night, eight went to decisions, some of
which left the fans scratching their heads
in wonder. Notably those of Cole Province
(declared the winner) against Fredson Pai-
xao, and L.C. Davies (winner) against Javier
Vazquez, both of which were clearly to the
displeasure of the crowd. Decisions aside,
there is no denying the wealth of talent in
the WEC’s bantamweight division.
