the rankings, we will have to wait and see where he fights next.

Robbie Lawler’s loss to welterweight Jake Shields at StrikeForce saw him drop a spot in the ran-
kings.
5 YUSHIN OKAMI WAYJUTSU 5 5
Okami has been inactive since beating Dean Lister in December, we patiently await a return to
action and maybe even a title shot.

6 NATHAN MARQUARDT JACKSON’S 3 6
Nathan Marquardt looks improved and remotivated, it won’t be long before he earns another title
shot if he keeps this pace.
7 DAN HENDERSON QUEST 2 -
Dan Henderson made a return to the middleweight division and a return to form when he knocked
out Michael Bisping at UFC 100.

8 DEMIAN MAIA BARRA 7 7
Demian Maia remains undefeated and continues to climb the ranks, a win over Marquardt will no
doubt see him as the number one contender.
9 KAZUO MISAKI GRABAKA 3 -
Misaki made a return to action against Kazuhiro Nakamura at Sengoku 9, beating the PRIDE and
UFC veteran by guillotine in the first round.
10 VITOR BELFORT COUTURE 8 9
Vitor Belfort seems to have found his place at middleweight, his win over Matt Lindland was phe-
nomenal and sees him back in the top ten.

GSP’s win over Jon Fitch just confirms what we already knew, he is the best welterweight fighter
in the world.

Fitch’s win over Paulo Thiago sees him regain the number 1 contender spot, he can’t be far from a
rematch with GSP.
3 THIAGO ALVES ATT 2 2
Thiago Alves drops behind Fitch following his loss to the champion. The Brazilian will have to go
back to the drawing board.
4 JOSH KOSCHECK AKA 4 4
Josh Koscheck lost to unseeded Paulo Thiago and should rightfully drop down, but with Sanchez
dropping to lightweight and the controversy over Karo’s win, he stays put.
5 JAKE SHIELDS CESAR GRACIE 5 5
With Shields beating Robbie Lawler (even if it was at a catch weight) the Cesar Gracie fighter
climbs into the top 5.

6 MATT HUGHES H.I.T. SQUAD 1 6
The former champion’s win over arch-rival Matt Serra saw him climb back up the rankings as he
prepares another run at the title.
TER 7 MIKE SWICK ATT 7 -
Swick has gone 4-0 since dropping to welterweight, putting him in the mix for a title shot... if he
really wants to fight GSP.

8 MARTIN KAMPMANN COUTURE 8 9
Kampmann was a force at middleweight, but seems destined for greatness at welterweight,
judging by his first two wins.
9 PAULO THIAGO CONSTRICTOR 9 10
Paulo Thiago jumped straight into the top 10 thanks to his KO win over Josh Koscheck at UFC 95.
His loss to Fitch sees him stagnate near the bottom.
10 MARIUS ZAROMSKIS LONDON SHOOT 10 -
Two impressive knockouts in the same night threw Marius Zaromskis into the limelight and
launched him into the top ten.

Aoki’s win over Shaolin, although not his most impressive, confirms his status as the number one

BJ Penn’s return to the lightweight division and domination of Kenny Florian sees him take back
his place just behind Aoki.

Eddie Alvarez looked great in the Bellator FC tournament, we will need to see him take on top
competition in order for him to keep his spot.
4 TATSUYA KAWAJIRI T-BLOOD 3 3
Kawajiri is back on form, he looked better than ever against Gesias at DREAM 9 and finds himself
shooting up the ranks.
5 FRANKIE EDGAR TEAM EDGAR 5 5
With only one loss on his record and recent wins over Hermes Franca and Sean Sherk, Frank Edgar
leaps into the lightweight top 10.
WEIGHT - 155 6 JOSH THOMSON AKA 6 6
Josh Thomson is out with an injury, so may find himself removed from the rankings in the next
couple of months.
7 SEAN SHERK MMAA 2 8
Sean Sherk will need some high profile wins in order to start his climb back towards the top. He
was outclassed by Frankie Edgar.
LIGHT
8 KENNY FLORIAN SIDYODTONG 8 10
Kenny Florian utterly dominated Joe Stevenson, proving his place in the top ten, but his loss to
BJ suggests that he’s not yet ready to compete with the very best fighters.
9 MIZUTO HIROTA GUTSMAN 9 -
Wins over Mitsuhiro Ishida and Satoru Kitaoka for the Sengoku lightweight belt earns the Japanese
fighter a place among the elite.
10 SATORU KITAOKA NIPPON TT 4 4
Kitaoka drops as quickly as he climbed into the rankings. He had moments of brilliance against
Hirota, but needs to round out his game.
