that technique, and we give them
the things they need to turn it into a
career.
What types of career opportunities
are there for massage therapists?
Where are your students placed?
Shawn: That’s the great thing about
massage therapy; there are so many dif-
ferent career paths to take. We are all
stressed out right now. The time is right
to get into a profession where someone
can relax and release that tension.
Judy: We have placed our graduates
at resorts, spas, hospitals, chiropractic
offices, doctors’ offices, and cruise
ships, as well as with sports teams. We
have students working at pregnancy
centers where they specialize in pre-
and post-natal care. Others find a
career at retail outlets, such as Mas-
sage Envy. Of course, self-employment
is popular.
School administrators work
extensively with the local commu-
nity to ensure the curriculum is up to
date and meets the needs of potential
employers. For example, we are hear-
ing that reflexology and deep tissue
massage are becoming more popular.
So, we are working to focus additional
training in these areas.
What type of outplacement
services do you provide?
Judy: The school offers career service
options to help graduates obtain their
massage license and find an appropri-
ate employment situation for them.
Because of the level of training we
provide, our graduates don’t need to
take a national exam before applying
for their license. So they can receive
their license four to six weeks after
graduation. In many cases, they’ve
already been hired by the time the
license actually arrives and start work
in their new career immediately.
