Here I have decided to do the brown background. When I paint I usually layer my first
local color in with an airbrush and then put the handwork over it. I believe I can keep
the painting smooth like this and avoid that airbrush slick illustrative look. My gun of
choice is and always has been an Iwata Side cup HP-SB.
I continue painting the entire canvas in the fashion described in step 5. Here is a se-
quence.
At this point I look at the image as a whole and begin to tie it together usually with
hand applications of transparent glazes. This adds depth and flavor I believe to the im-
age. A glaze; for those who are unfamiliar with the term, is a small amount of usually
a transparent color mixed with a large amount of medium and layered over the existing
color.
