Unfortunately, while working on the wrinkles, I kind of lost track contrast and to add some highlights. For the collar, I lay down
of the time and completely forgot to take some pictures as I was a good layer of white to get full coverage and I’ll do the texture
going along....sorry! A hand held shield was used to get them with the black. For the toque, I simply did a bunch of very light
done with some diluted black and the shield slightly lifted from and very tight squiggly white lines to create the wool texture. I
the surface, I was able to create some smooth edges. The trick did come back with some black to create the vertical pattern.
here is to work in light coats. I know that I tend to repeat myself At the same time, I was able to redefine the edge of the toque
when it comes to this, but that is the way to do it. I can then at the forehead, which kind of got lost with overspray or at least
come back with a bit of white below the wrinkles to increase the it wasn’t as crisp as it should have been.
The collar texture was done with more squiggly black lines. I also added more tex-
ture to the darker areas as well as spray a light mist of paint to create depth to
make the collar seam to stand out.
With the face now completed, I added Sting’s name with a small bright highlight.
The lettering was done with my vinyl cutter. The same can be achieved by hand
cutting your masks. Before removing the mask all around, I give another two coats
all over the painted surface with the same mixture that I first started with, then I
heat set with hot iron for 5 minutes. This is to help protect the paint from fading
during washing cycles.
Here is the finished product, which took me roughly 6 hours to complete, including
the surface preparation. I found this to be a fun project to do. Not too difficult and
a great distraction from the projects I was working on at the time which involved
very little free hand painting and allot of masking and cutting. My sister in law was
very happy with her jacket.
I hope that the information in this article will help you in your future projects and I
encourage you to give it a try. Grab that old denim jacket and give it a new look!
