The Stars and Stripes
Using a star stencil I created, I placed guideline marks around the film so I have an
idea of where the stars need to be. The stars are evenly spaced apart from each
other and very lightly sprayed with the transparent white I had mixed earlier. Before I
paint the stripes, I covered the blue of the flag and the white stripes in order to paint
the red stripes and to prevent overspray on other sections. I mix my transparent red
into more of a translucent red by using reducer and transparent base. Lightly, I layer
the red paint in the stripes until the red stripes are barely visible. I then remove all the
film coverings and add a few highlights to accentuate the movement in the flag. Now I
remove the tape and the film from the surface. All that remains to be done is to add a
discreet flagpole, and then the flag will be completed.
