Remembering Frank Reece
I lost my Skipper today. After fighting many years
with health issues that took him away from the water, he
passed onto fairer winds and calmer waters.
The reason I write you today is that I believe in many
ways, he was the epitome of a 48 North sailor. He was
neither a racing rock star nor a world cruiser, but a passion
for sailing stirred deeply within him – one that started with
a $100 purchase of a Jetwind at an outlet store in Kansas,
and lead over the years to a series of larger and larger
boats, relocating the family to the Puget Sound, the entire
family living on a 24’ and then 36’ sailboat, and unending
tales of wonderful time spent on or near the water within
the Puget Sound, San Juans and beyond.
I’m so incredibly grateful he shared this passion with
me. Frankly, today sailing is a major part of what makes
me the man I am today, and I will always cherish the times
I spent with him on the water. And as I look at my four
month old daughter, I simply cannot wait to share what has
become a family passion with her and hope that it brings
her the joy that it has brought me over the years.
Today, I lost my Skipper, my father, my friend… and
the Puget Sound has lost a lifelong sailor. May fair winds
and following seas be with him always… Frank Reece of
the Knight-N-Gale, Everett, Washington.
Thanks for being part of what father so enjoyed about

sailing in the Northwest. You could always find no less
than 3-4 issues of 48° North on his boat and they made

Love the On-Line Magazine
I love the online magazine! I really do...and that said,
I’m going to keep my subscription ‘cause I’m the touchy-
feely type when it comes to paper. But the convenience of

wow! It might be a little restrictive for those of us without

Why be stuck paying moorage? Now you can have a trailerable
