This is the second issue of your new-look IBE - redesigned to
better reflect the requirements of both readers and the
broadcast market in general. In tough times it is important for
all businesses - trade journals included - to look at how they
present themselves, and to ensure they are in the best shape
possible to prosper against economic downturn.
Next month’s NAB show in Las Vegas (20-23 April)
represents our industry’s first major outing since the global
recession took hold, and will provide a valuable opportunity
for broadcast businesses - large and small - to show the
market how they are responding to economic challenges. My
hope is that the inherent agility of our industry will prevail,
and we will witness new strategies already in place to
ensure the market doesn’t stagnate due to a lack of
investment.
Even before NAB throws open it doors, I’m pleased to say
there is little sign of such stagnation. Developments in 3D
broadcast continue at breakneck speed, ensuring that our
industry’s ‘next big thing’ is on course. In addition,
subscription figures from pay-TV operators the world over still
seem to be stacking up, providing an essential spur for
continued development.
Other trade exhibitions - in the UK we have just had a very
well attended and successful BVE - are holding their own too,
confirming a belief that our industry is still hungry for
information, products and systems to drive change and
development.
I’m grateful to all who wrote congratulating us on the
redesigned IBE. I look forward to extending the compliment
to all those businesses at NAB that are leaner, greener, and
ready to prosper in the year ahead, whatever the economy
throws at them.
