T Bowled over
oday, there is something of a preoccupation with health and safety as men with clipboards, hard hats and fluorescent yellow vests, crawl all over our lives ostensibly to ensure we are healthy and safe. Cynics
among use say that their real mission is to ensure their own jobs are safe, and the bank balances of insurance companies they protect are healthy. A lot of health and
safety is just common sense. If it were left to health and safety officials we would all languish under the duvet all day. And, cricket would be banned! With one finger up to the Health & Safety mob, women have recently taken off the covers and taken up cricket with a vengeance. Indeed, among summer events England Women v Australia Women (7 July) at Lords (or is that Ladies) is one of ‘the’ fixtures. We laid on a little atmospheric preview with England’s
first lady of cricket bat crafting – Jennifer Kember of Salix - testing a pair of Timberland ladies safety trainers. They bowled that maiden over! Far from retiring to the pavilion for tea after the
match, the lady cricketer might pick something from the Editor’s Choice to rip up a bit of turf! She might wear a pair of ergonomic high heels with a sexy hidden platform and the added comfort of a memory foam footbed, from Terra Plana. Or, a comfortable but stylish chestnut-suede boot from Rocket Dog, a gorgeous gem stone belt from Rodeo Belts and a buttery soft, tan faux leather ladies bag from Stone Bags, that looks like she had bought on the proceeds of a win at Royal Ascot, but it in fact sports an £18 price tag!
In this edition, we also look at the new generation of
footwear brands that specifically market comfort, offering a wider fit which many people of all ages need, and describe how Design4retail delivered a sales up-lift for Schuh and its brands through effective Point-Of-Purchase (POP).
