Tell us about your company history and your brand/products Eastern Counties Leather PLC was founded in 1879 and is based in Sawston near Cambridge. We have more than a century of experience in the manufacture of fine quality leather that has been recognised by being awarded a Royal Warrant from Her Majesty the Queen for chamois leather. We have created an outstanding collection
representing the best of British and International leather and sheepskin products with both time- honoured and contemporary designs. Our suppliers use manufacturing techniques to bring together the best of traditional craftsmanship using carefully sourced and selected materials whilst utilizing modern production methods.
Which are your best selling lines? We have found that within our quality products, no particular range sells over others. We are recognised for our ability to contain costs within margins to allow retailers to make a reasonable profit whilst remaining competitive.
Any famous customers? Suffice to say we are proud to hold the Royal Warrant for Chamois Leather. In addition we have a superb range of customers, which include leading department stores and specialist independent retail outlets.
Where do you source your skins? We have two abattoirs in the UK and work closely with our manufacturers whenever and wherever possible to use our own supplies.
Where do you manufacture? We are based in Sawston, Cambridgeshire and are one of the few remaining tannery buildings in the UK. We have a long history of manufacturing coats, gloves and footwear but in recent years this has been expanded to produce a comprehensive range of Sheepskin and Leather accessories.
How many people do you employ in the UK? Approximately 100 employees.
How do you market your designs? We attend Fashion and Trade shows throughout the year, combined with various advertisements in Fashion and Footwear magazines.
And the next step? Any plans for future, new lines, etc? We are attending Moda Accessories from the 9th to 11th of August and will take this opportunity to launch our new and exciting range of Ladies and Men’s Leather Garments. We have just circulated our new brochure that has
