and melodic invention bring the subject matter vividly to life.
The Creation remains his most beloved choral work. Inspired by perform-
ances of Handel’s Messiah, Haydn set about creating an oratorio of his
own. The text is taken from the Book of Genesis, the Psalms and from
Milton’s Paradise Lost. Today marks the 200th. anniversary of Haydn’s
death. This performance of “The Creation” links with performances in
Capital cities around the world.
