Problem Shooting (set-up #1)...
• Subject is Under-Exposed: Increase the power on the key
light slightly to compensate.
• Background is Under-Exposed: Increase the power on the
background lights to compensate.
• Subject Appears Hazy: Move your subject further away from
the background and ensure that there is no background light
spilling onto the subject.
3 About Turn! (Set-Up #2)
“Using the same Bowens heads,
simply change the modifiers and
the colour of the background paper to
achieve a totally different look and feel; as demonstrated in the
image taken by Gladys Ullaure Villalta at Solihull College (above
right - Model: Tanita).
For this set-up, we simply replaced the Bowens High-Performance
Reflectors with two Bowens Stripboxes and then turned them
around to face the back of the subject to create a rim light effect.
The key-light modifier was simply changed from a medium sized
softbox to a smaller 60x60 softbox and placed onto a boom stand,
allowing it to be positioned high above the model and throw the
shadows down, thus creating a more dramatic lighting effect.
Hey presto, different model... different look!!!”

Less is more as they say!
• Image Hazy / Lens Flare: Alter the angle of the strip light so
that it doesn’t spill light directly down the lens of your camera.
