TOP OF THE CLASS
student under the spotlight
This month Litebook catches up with teenage photo-
Litebook: Why did you choose to
student Joseph Foster-Middleton, who’s studying at
study photography?
The London College of Communication.
JFM: I guess I really got hooked at
secondary school – but I’ve always
enjoyed taking pictures on holiday
and capturing those special (often
embarrassing) family moments.
LB: Which photo disciplines
resonate best with you right now?
JFM: Nothing too specific but
fashion seems to be regularly on the
radar at the moment. I like the idea
of interweaving all the required
elements in the development of a
single idea.
LB: Most memorable and
forgettable projects to date?
JFM: I’ve really enjoyed recent
shoots that involve my girlfriend.
Lack of inhibition on both sides
helps a lot.
On the ‘forgettable’ side I recall a
college project where I had to take
pictures at Brighton Pier. The
weather was appalling and my
Pentax K1000 was having some film
issues.
LB: What are your aspirations /
ambitions as a photographer?
JFM: Recognition. Surely that’s
what we all want? I would really love
to open up a book or go to a gallery
and find my work there.
I would feel like I had achieved
something if someone other than my
tutor was positively critiquing my
work.
