…AND CAREFUL COORDINATION
The architecture firm uses progressive technolo- gies, such as building information modeling (BIM), to heighten design capabilities and conserve re- sources. “BIM has really changed the industry the way AutoCAD did years ago. 3D modeling really helps us communicate and solidify the ideas that we’re trying to capture,” says Bartlett.
This shared tool also streamlines collaboration, saves time and reduces mistakes. “In bringing together mechanical and electrical consultants and others, like we do with our Revit program, we are having fewer problems with coordination and design conflicts, like ceiling heights having to change due to duct work positioning miscal- culations,” adds Bartlett. “You’re thinking and drawing in 3D, which really helps mitigate prob- lems prior to construction.”
A SUPPORTIVE TEAM TAKES CARE OF ITS OWN AND OTHERS
Marmon Mok supports its staff in numerous ways. It hosts company-wide get-togethers to celebrate team members’ accomplishments and project mile- stones. Its design professionals are encouraged to participate in research endeavors and attend in-house
lunch-and-learn sessions, professional conferences, technology training and project tours.
The new One Frost campus’ contemporary interior design elements, such as flexible work spaces and floor-to-ceiling windows, make this a convenient and refreshing workplace for employees to enjoy.
Active community involvement is also a central focus for Marmon Mok individuals, who often attend local events and functions hosted by clients and nonprofits. Additionally, many staff members have held leadership roles in profes- sional and civic organizations. Collectively, em- ployees participate in more than 100 volunteer, civic and professional organizations.
A culture of health and wellness is promoted by the architecture firm. For instance, last January, Marmon Mok and 19 other companies participat- ed in a Fit Company challenge, which involved six fitness contests, a three-course team challenge, and a 5K run. Another case in point is the compa- ny’s annual involvement in the San Antonio Sports Corporate Cup. This fitness event brings together members of businesses and organizations for a day filled with friendly athletic competitions.
Building design—inside and out—is what makes Marmon Mok tick. What’s more, the firm supports the advancement of the building and design indus- try through leadership. It encourages active commu- nity involvement and champions charitable causes. And, most importantly, it listens to and anticipates the needs of its clients—and its employees.
