Sirchie’s Krimesite Imager (RUVIS System)

Also available are portable fingerprint collection kits, as well as tabletop and pedestal fingerprint collection units, products for postmortem printing, and cleaners. Latent print development methods and processes have evolved greatly. There are now a multitude of procedures and products that employ both old and new technologies. Sirchie offers a complete line of products for developing, processing, lifting and preserving latent prints. Some of the more important products include lifting tape, hinge lifters, gel lifters, powders, brushes, magnetic powder and applica- tors, and certified DNA-free latent print products. Stations for latent print and downdraft dusting, chemical processing of latent fingerprints, PCR workstations, and cyanoacrylate fuming chambers are all part of Sirchie’s fingerprint line.

Sirchie State-of-the-Art Technology Sirchie’s KRIMESITE™ Imager is a no-touch technology utiliz- ing Refl ected Ultraviolet Imaging (RUVIS) to detect latent fi n- gerprints without the use of powders or chemicals. Shortwave ultraviolet light (254nm UVC) illuminates the room in daylight or various other lighting conditions, allowing things such as fi ngerprints to be observed around a light switch or other area. The imager focuses on the spot on the wall and marks that spot. The image is then brought closer with the device on a tri- pod, allowing for fi nger ridge detail to be refl ected on the ultra- violet imaging system, which is hooked up to a digital camera to photograph the image.

That means the image has not been compromised for later DNA collection and processing. This helps to provide the best means to identify the most evidence using the best available technology. The Sirchie KRIMESITE Imager provides various options to allow the user to search, view, and capture latent prints and other evidence not visible to the unaided eye. Other high-tech products that can assist in crime scene and evidence examination are the LABKAM® laboratory video- based RUVIS system, FOCOS2® Forensic Optical Comparison/ Examination System, FXE350 Digital Forensic Examination

Crime Scene Documentation Documenting the crime scene thoroughly is one of the most im- portant parts of an investigation. Accurate and complete pho- tographing of the crime scene can mean the difference in a case being properly prosecuted. All forensic photography should include a scale that will provide subsequent viewers with infor- mation that will allow the photographs to be seen in perspective. Sirchie provides a broad range of scales, rulers, sketching tem- plates and equipment, camera kits, and photography supplies to aid the investigator in crime scene documentation. Sirchie has placed a great deal of emphasis on crime scene documentation with such new products as the DIGMK300 Digital Measurement Kit, SIRCHMARK Disposable Evidence Markers (SDM100E, SDM100M), Bloodstain/Evidence Templates with Open Scale (BST2), and all their evidence scales.

Evidence Handling

Proper collection, handling, labeling, transportation, and stor- age of evidence are critical elements to maintaining the integrity of crime scene investigations. Cases cannot be prosecuted with- out proper evidence packaging and storage and maintaining the chain of evidence is one of the most important factors in provid- ing physical evidence for prosecution.

Sirchie also provides a broad offering of bags, boxes, containers,

envelopes, and labels that are designed specifi cally for forensic ap- plications that allow the investigator to collect, label, and maintain evidence according to their relevant standard operating proce- dures. They also offer a full line of evidence drying cabinets. Sirchie offers a broad range of tools for use in the identifi ca- tion and retrieval of physical and trace evidence including preci- sion tools, marking devices, vacuum kits, metal detectors, and a diverse range of evidence collection kits for everything from DNA/physiological and trace physical evidence to entomology and arson evidence and investigation kits.
