Blades of viral glory In the opening ceremony of the 2016 U.S.
Synchronized Skating Championships, held in February in Kalamazoo, Michigan, former U.S. ice dancers Dean Copely and Tim McKernan performed their rendition of “Fire and Ice,” originally made famous in the 2007 movie Blades of Glory. Video of the performance was post-
ed on icenetwork and quickly went viral, being picked up by NBC Olympics, USA Today and popular websites, including
thecomeback.com and
cheezburger.com. Since being posted, icenetwork’s video has garnered more than 37,000 views. Skating as Jimmy MacElroy and Chazz
Michael Michaels, played in the film by Jon Heder and Will Ferrell, respectively, McKernan (MacElroy) and Copely (Michaels) revised the roles they originally brought to life at the 2009

dance pewter medalist with Shannon Wingle, while Copely is the 2011 U.S. junior ice dance champion with Charlotte Lichtman.

What is your favor- ite part about your job (so far)? I enjoy working with athletes to make sure that they have a positive international experi- ence. I also enjoy the office environment that U.S. Figure Skating provides; everyone is super friendly and it has created a positive experience for me. What do you like to do in your spare
time? I like to be active. I snowboard in the winter and in the summer I like to hike or ride horses. What would people be surprised to
know about you? I spent two years training and competing horses in the sport of three- day eventing. I traveled the entire East Coast, competing every weekend. My mom taught me to ride at a young age. What would be your ideal vacation? A
weekend in the mountains or on a beach. I love both but definitely miss being close to a coast and having access to beaches. Any- where with good friends and family is a good vacation to me. Tell us a little bit about your family. I
was born and raised in northern Virginia. My parents and older brother still live in the Wash- ington, D.C.-Northern Virginia area. We enjoy family trips to the mountains to ski together.
A one of a kind skating experience.
