CONGRATULATIONS

Jay Detherage re res with an impressive 37 years of service. Hired June 27, 1977, Detherage spent his fi rst three years as a laborer on the construc on crew before making the transi on to a digger truck crew.

In 1982, Detherage took over du es as a warehouseman in Grove. Four years later, he transferred to the same job at Vinita headquarters. He re res as the warehouse coordinator at headquarters.

“It was great being able to work that long, and I appreciate the coopera ve giving me the opportunity,” Detherage said.

He confi rmed that he has seen many changes take place at REC since his arrival.

“Of course, when I came on board all we did was electric,” he said. “Then Northeast Rural Services came along with the brush clearing and spraying, and then later we had the satellite business. We are certainly more diverse now than just an electric coopera ve.”

In addi on to spending more  me with his family, Detherage will also be able to focus more a en on on growing his steer opera on.

“Those will probably be the main things I’ll be doing,” he said.

Jack Frost re res following 15 years of service. Frost joined the coopera ve family May 5, 1999. He re red this past January from his post as chemical applicator for Northeast Rural Services’ right-of-way division. However, he wore more than one hat in that role.

“I spent quite a lot of  me, par cularly over the last fi ve or six years, doing transmission line permi ng, loca ng landowners and that type of thing,” Frost explained.

Frost used the word “camaraderie” to described the rela onships he forged during his more than 15 years with the coopera ve subsidiary.

“I really enjoyed being around the people I worked with here,” said Frost. “I met and worked with some good people throughout the years.”

Frost lives in rural Vinita but has family and land in Kansas that he’ll have more  me to visit now.

“I enjoy both shoo ng and fi shing and I haven’t really had much  me to do either one of them over the past few years,” he laughed. “Beyond that, I’m not quite certain just what I’ll do down the road, but I’m sure I’ll fi nd something—I may do some volunteering and maybe fi nd something to bring in some income, too.”
